The Cabinet Secretary (CS) of Cooperatives and MSMEs Development Wycliffe Oparanya has threatened to resign from cabinet.
While speaking during a church service in South B, Nairobi, on Sunday, August 11, Oparanya said that he heard the voices of the youth in the country including their desperate plea for help.
Oparanya said he understood that the biggest problem Gen Zs face was lack of jobs and resources to run their business, promising to bring an end to the crisis.
However, the CS said that if the government did not listen to his advice, he would quit from the position and go back home.
“I see that the young people, Gen Z, are saying that they don’t have businesses and jobs. I am now here, and I will make sure that they get those jobs.
“These people have searched and realized that this old man can help them do the job. I will. But if I tell them to go one direction and they refuse, I will quit and go back home,” he stated.

Oparanya and Other CSs Sworn In
His sentiments came barely a week after he was sworn in to Cabinet after appointment by President William Ruto.
During the swearing in of the Cabinet Secretaries, Ruto expressed confidence in the team and their ability to deliver.
Further, Ruto announced that the cabinet would introduce new terms and conditions to ensure accountability and efficient delivery from government officers.
These conditions included the mandatory vetting of all public servants. According to the head of state, the move will ensure efficiency and do away with corruption in the public service.
Additionally, Ruto stated that public servants will be required to declare their wealth under the same proposed framework.

Kalonzo Advice on Ruto’s Broad Based Government
Meanwhile, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka advised Kenyan youth to track all advertised government contracts and procurement processes.
Speaking at a separate church service, Kalonzo explained that this would help identify contracts and procurements that may have been awarded before they were advertised.
“I suggest to Gen Z that every contract and procurement that Ruto’s government will try to put in place during the current financial year, let’s go through those contracts and check whether some have been given out even before they were advertised.
“It is very possible for Gen Z to get into that and expose them,” Kalonzo said.
According to the Wiper leader, government officials were in the habit of looting money from contracts which they used as bribe.
