President William Ruto has appointed former Communcations Authority of Kenya (CA) Director General Ezra Chiloba for a new ambassadorial role.
The appointment was made in a dispatch released by the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on Friday, March 8, 2024.
Chiloba will assume the role of the Consul General for the State of Los Angeles in the United States of America (USA).
“His Excellency the President has today caused nominations to the senior ranks of the public service for persons to serve the nation as Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Permanent Representatives in Kenya’s Embassies/High Commissions/Missions abroad,” the statement read in part.
Chiloba was appointed as a Consul General alongside three others who are set to assume roles in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.
The appointments by the head of state also include those of Deputy Heads of Missions, Special Envoys and Ministry Headquarters Ambassadorial appointments.
Following the appointments, six new Kenyan High Commissioners will assume roles in the United Kingdom, Uganda, Zambia, Pakistan, Canada and Ghana.
Other appointments
For the Ambassadorial posts, Ruto’s ally Fred Outa has been appointed to head the Kenyan Embassy in Egypt.
On the other hand, former East Africa Community Secretary General Dr. Peter Muthuku Mathuki will head the Kenyan Embassy in Russia.

Caroline Mueke has been nominated to fill in the vacant position left by Dr. Mathuki , which will be determined by the Summit of the Heads of State in East Africa.

Other Kenyan Embassies that have seen fresh appointments include those of the Netherlands, Cuba, Japan, USA and Cuba.
At the same time Phillip Omondi Thigo has been appointed as a sole Special Envoy on Technology.
For the Ministry Headquarters Ambassadorial Appointments, Julius Kiptoo has been appointed to head the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) while Joseph Masila will assume the role of Director Economic Affairs & Commercial Diplomacy.
Additionally, Beatrice Nyakobe and Jane Makori have been appointed as the Director (Americas & Caribbean) and Deputy Director (Asia & the Pacific) respectively.
Eleven Deputy Heads of Missions and four Permanent Representatives have also been appointed by President Ruto.

Following the nominations, the names have been transmitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament in fulfillment of the legal requirements set under our nation’s supreme law.
Chiloba resigns from CA
Chiloba’s nomination as a Consul General comes after his resignation from the Communications Authority (CA) in October 2023.
In a statement, CA confirmed that Chiloba tendered his resignation to the Authority’s board of directors on Wednesday, October 18.
“The Board of Directors of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has this morning, 19th October 2023, accepted the resignation of Mr. Ezra Chiloba as the Director General,” CA noted.
Chiloba resigned on the back of investigations into alleged irregularities in a procurement process at the CA.
