Edmund Kwena, father of the late actress Winnie Bwire Ndubi, has eulogized her as a hardworking individual who got along with people.
Winnie died on Thursday September 5 while receiving treatment in Acıbadem Maslakin Turkey, Istanbul.
The actress who played ‘Dida’ in the Citizen TV series Sultana passed away after a two-year battle with breast cancer, Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) which involves abnormal cells milk ducts.
Winnie’s father described his youngest child as someone he loved deeply, noting that she used to entertain people, bake cakes, and excelled in interior design.
“She was a hardworking child with full of respect. After leaving university, she never asked me to help her find a job. We lost her and it seems I appear strong, but deep down I am filled with immense sorrow,” he said.
“The child left me unexpectedly. I thought that she will win the battle and come back alive to continue with her work, but God had other plans and took her away. It is really painful.”
Father Speaks of Bwire Battle with Cancer
Kwena acknowledged that cancer is a deadly disease that needs to be treated in its early stages, stating that it took them a long time to realize that the actress was battling the disease.

“It took us a long time to find out that Winnie had cancer. By the time we learned about it as a family, it had already progressed to stage 4,” Kwena said.
“When she went to Turkey for the first time, it was confirmed that her cancer was at stage 4. They told us we were late, but they would try to reverse it.
“And indeed, they treated her, and she returned to her normal activities, making us say, “God is great.”
Bwire’ father revealed that she later got sick again, and the family decided to take her back to the hospital, but unfortunately, she did not return alive.
He urged the government to ensure that every individual is screened for cancer so that they can seek treatment early.
Eugene Auka, Winnie’s uncle said the family stated that Winnie Bwire’s body will arrive in the country on Sunday, September 8, accompanied by her mother.
The burial will take place in Mumias, Kakamega County.
They are making arrangements to give her a beautiful send-off and will be meeting at Mount Zion Church in Nyali from 4 to 6 PM every day until the farewell.
“We are in the process of processing her body and we are expecting the body this Sunday at the Moi International,” he said.

Winnie Bwire Last Message While in Turkey
Just a week ago on August 28th, 2024, Winnie had shared on her social media pages that she had safely arrived in Turkey for treatment, staying hopeful and positive despite the tough journey she had been on.
“Dear humans, we finally made our way to Turkey. Thank you so much for making this possible for me and for giving me a fighting chance. I am choosing to focus on the good. I’ve already seen my doctors, and they are working out my treatment plans,” she said in video.
“I’m going through a series of tests, and we pulled this move because we decided it was smarter for us to start treatment while the fundraisers are going on. Again, I would really, really love to thank you for your utmost support. I love you all.
Please keep giving whatever you can. I am starting treatment soon, and I will come back home victorious. And yes, that is Mom celebrating, rejoicing in the hospital as they perform a procedure to relieve my lungs that are filled with water. God bless this woman.”
