Cabinet Secretary for Labour Alfred Mutua has told off critics who have accused him of duping job applicants through his Kazi Majuu initiative. Some job seekers have claimed that the positions they were promised by the Labor CS have not materialized.
In an interview on Wednesday, May 7, Dr. Mutua stated that he will not be distracted by his critics.
“I am going to keep my eyes on the ball, and I am not going to be distracted by slay queens, by the wrong people, or by those all over this country who may be commenting and writing,” Mutua said.
He emphasized that he has a greater responsibility, asserting, “I am doing God’s work.”
Mutua Lashes Out at His Critics
Mutua defended his initiative, claiming a 90% success rate, although he acknowledged some challenges related to communication.
“The communication process has been poor. I just did not realize there was a communication problem, but it has come to my attention,” he admitted.
He promised to enhance communication between his team, which is seeking job opportunities abroad for Kenyans, and the job seekers themselves to alleviate their anxieties.
He also mentioned that recruitment agencies that have been scamming people have been shut down, and he plans to refund those who lost money through agencies that worked with his ministry but failed to deliver jobs for Kenyans.

Mutua’s remarks came a day after a heated exchange with UDA-nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba during a Senate Committee on Labor and Social Welfare meeting.
Orwoba s questioned commercial recruitment agencies, accusing them of repackaging government-to-government job offers and selling them to desperate job seekers.
She highlighted concerning reports of applicants being conned by rogue agents, including cases where individuals paid fees only to be denied travel or job placements.
In response, Labor CS Mutua challenged Orwoba to provide evidence of job seekers who paid but have not been refunded.
Labour CS and Senator Orwoba Engage in Heated Argument
He accused her of trying to gain political advantage from the situation. “The senator has been acting as a recruiting agent seeking to have 600 youth from Bobasi Constituency taken abroad, and when this was not possible, the problems started,” Mutua stated.
Also, during the Senate Committee session, a key point of discussion was the Ksh 55,000 fee imposed on successful candidates following Ministry-led recruitment drives.

Kajiado Senator Seki Lenku pressed for a detailed breakdown of the charge, demanding clarity on medical screening costs and the budgetary allocations tied to the program. Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni further questioned why the Ministry and commercial recruitment agencies chose private facilities for medical screening instead of using more affordable government institutions.
However, Labour CS Dr. Alfred Mutua clarified that the medical facilities were selected by host countries after conducting due diligence. He also defended the fee, stating that it covered medical tests and processing costs. Mutua assured the committee that refunds were available for candidates who opted out—excluding any medical expenses already incurred.
