The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners and their chair and vice chair have appeared together for the first time since the announcement of the August polls presidential results.
The chairperson Wafula Chebukati, vice chairperson Juliana Cherera, commissioners Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit, Abdi Guliye, Boya Molu and Francis Wanderi, held a briefing at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday, August 22.
The electoral commission met leaders from areas where polls were indefinitely postponed amid allegations of harassment of IEBC officials.
Moreover, the commissioners were last seen together on August 15, in the early afternoon ahead of the announcement of the presidential election results.
However, a few minutes to the big announcement by Chebukati, Ms. Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Irene Masit and Justus Nyang’aya disassociated themselves with the presidential results which saw William Ruto declared president-elect.
While addressing the press at Serena Hotel, Cherera said the last phase of the electoral process, was not transparent.

“As you can see, the four of us are here and not at Bomas where the result is going to be announced because of the opaque nature of how this phase has been handled, we therefore cannot take ownership of the result that is going to be announced.” She stated the.
Furthermore, Cherera said that the whole team had met hours before the announcement, where they differed before the four broke away.
As a result, the seven IEBC commissioners have not been seen in public together until today.
Nonetheless, during the briefing on Monday August 22, the stakeholders unanimously agreed to hold the election on August 29.
The areas affected include; Kakamega Mombasa counties (gubernatorial) and the Pokot South, Kacheliba, Kitui Rural and Rongai MP seats, as well as MCA seat in Nyaki West and Kwa Njenga wards.
