Kenya Railways has issued ticket extensions for students following the postponement of school reopening day to May 6, 2024.
In a statement on Monday, April 29, Kenya railways alerted members of the public that the ticket extension was due to the change in opening dates for both primary and secondary school students.

The Railways authority noted that all student tickets purchased for travel between Monday, April 29th and Friday, May 3rd, 2024, aboard the Madaraka Express will remain open for use from Monday, May 6th to Friday, May 10th, 2024.
“We wish to notify members of the public that owing to the postponement of school opening dates for all primary and secondary schools by the Ministry of Education,” read the statement in part.

“All student tickets purchased for travel between today, Monday, April 29th and Friday, May 3rd, 2024, aboard the Madaraka Express will remain open for use from Monday, May 6th to Friday, May 10th, 2024.”
In addition, Kenya Railways stressed that the extension applies exclusively to students and their accompanying guardian.

“Please note that this extension only applies to students and their accompanying guardian,” stated Kenya Railways.

Ena Coach Gives Way Foward to Students Over Bus Tickets
Similarly, Ena Coach Bus company issued a way forward for parents and students who had already made bookings to travel back to school before the announcement by CS Machogu.
Ena Coach directed all affected clients to contact their helpline at 0709832000 for assistance with transferring booking dates or visit KPCU office for the same.
“In response to the Ministry of Education’s updated school opening date, we kindly request our affected customers to contact our helpline at 0709832000 for assistance with transferring their booking date visit KPCU office for the same,” noted Ena coach.
Machogu Postpones Second Term School Reopening Dates
In a statement on Monday April 29 CS Ezekiel Machogu said the Ministry of Education resolved to postpone the reopening of all primary and secondary schools to May 6, 2024.
CS Machogu said they have received data that some schools have been adversely affected by the ongoing floods.
As such, he noted that sending students and staff to the affected schools would be putting their lives at risk.

“The devastating effects of the rains in some of the schools are so severe that it will be imprudent to risk the lives of learners and staff before water-tight measures are put in place to ensure adequate safety of all affected school communities.
“Based on this assessment, the Ministry of Education has resolved to postpone the reopening of all primary and secondary schools by one week, to Monday, May 6, 2024,” Machogu said.
