Safaricom has launched a new monthly data bundle dubbed Bundle ya Dere, a tailor-made solution designed to empower taxi drivers by lowering data costs, offering insurance protection, and providing free maps for easier navigation.
The launch took place at Ngong’ Hills Hotel, Nairobi, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Safaricom’s Business Lead for the Nairobi Metropolitan Region, James Mutisia, said the introduction of the bundle followed extensive engagement with taxi drivers across different regions to understand the challenges they face at work.
“And in taking feedback from the drivers we engaged with, I think that is why we are here today—to introduce a bundle specifically tailored to suit your needs. We know you have many needs as drivers, especially staying connected with customers and families in a worry-free way,” said James.
Safaricom Launches Bundle ya Dere Data Bundles
Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer of Safaricom, said the new bundle is part of a broader strategy to transform the lives of drivers and other groups.
“This has been a journey, and we started it with you. Our first meeting was in Mombasa where we engaged with drivers. As we celebrate 25 years, we believe we must change the game—it cannot only be about selling bundles, minutes, or SMS. We have to look at the individual and ask, what can we do to change their life? The best way is to focus on groups, what we call segments. We started with boda riders and have now come to drivers,” Fawzia stated.
