The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released a list of teachers who have been promoted to higher grades after successful interviews.
TSC in a March 5, 2024, statement announced that a total number of 36, 505 teachers have been promoted after it first announced plans of promotion in August 2023.
“The Commission has released a list of 36,505 teachers promoted to higher grades following interviews completed in January 2024,” read part of the statement.
In August 2023, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia announced the plans to promote 36,000 teachers which were to be done across nine grades.
“Promotions will be spread across primary, secondary schools and Teacher training colleges,” TSC said.
TSC Announces promotions
The commission further set aside 10,819 promotions for senior teachers under C2 while 12, 716 promotions were set for senior masters under grade C4.
Additionally, the Nancy Macharia-led commission set aside 1,029 promotions for headteachers under grade C5.
On the other hand, 700 promotion positions were set aside for senior teachers in special needs schools in grade C2, with 108 promotional positions slated for senior principals.

200 more positions were slated for senior lecturers in Teachers’ training colleges.
According to the teacher’s commission, the interested candidates in the positions were to send their applications by September 8, 2023, through the TSC portal.
How to check promotions
While releasing the list of successful applicants, the commission instructed applicants to confirm their promotion through a link on the TSC website.
To confirm a promotion, visit the Teachers Service Commission website, Click Home>Media Center>Downloads the Successful Candidates.
Under Successful Candidates, Click on Successful Applicants for Advert 46/2023 – 69/2023.
The Commission will publish a PDF File that you are supposed to download.
This file contains all the successful applicants for the promotion advert listed per the applicants’ respective TSC numbers.

At the same time, the promotions came days after the commission invited applications from primary tutors interested in jobs as Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 20, the teachers’ employer announced that it was deploying teachers to work in JSS schools with the deadline set for March 18.
TSC said applicants are required to be Kenyan citizens and have a P1 certificate.
Other requirements include having attained a C+ mean grade in the KCSE and be registered by the Commission as a teacher.
The Commission also specified that teachers serving under permanent and pensionable contracts in public primary schools and meet requisite qualifications were encouraged to apply.
