Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has alleged that members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are plotting to impeach President William Ruto following a High Court ruling that declared Azimio la Umoja as the majority in the National Assembly.
In a statement dated Sunday, February 9, Havi responded to Siaya Governor James Orengo, who urged ODM members to assert their majority party status in Parliament.
Orengo also cautioned that waiting until the 2027 General Elections to unseat President Ruto would be unrealistic and a mistake.
“We told President William Ruto that the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was a preparatory act for his eventual impeachment by ODM, but he never listened,” Havi claimed.
Nelson Havi Claims ODM Wants to Ouster President Ruto
Havi further alleged that the push for President Ruto’s removal would intensify if former Prime Minister Raila Odinga loses his bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship.
“The coming weeks and months will be nights of long swords. It will be even more calamitous if Raila Odinga loses the AU election,” he added.
Havi’s remarks come at a time when several senior Azimio la Umoja leaders have called on their legislators to reclaim their rightful positions in Parliament following the High Court’s decision.

While speaking in Siaya on Saturday, February 8, Governor James Orengo emphasized the significance of the ruling and urged ODM members to claim their leadership roles in the National Assembly.
“The High Court made an important ruling stating that Kenya Kwanza is not the majority party.
The majority party in Parliament is Azimio. What are we going to do about it? Are we going to sit at the table again and make a deal?” Orengo posed.

He further argued that the ruling confirmed that the 2022 General Election results were inaccurate.
His sentiments were echoed by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who called on Kenya Kwanza legislators to relinquish majority seats to Azimio.
At the same time, Kalonzo revealed that Azimio has convened a meeting to deliberate on the High Court’s ruling, which dismissed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s decision on the parliamentary majority and minority parties.
While addressing mourners at a funeral in Kitui on Saturday, February 8, Kalonzo disclosed that he had spoken with Azimio leader Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta regarding the matter and confirmed that they would hold a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting this Wednesday.
“I have spoken to Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta. On Wednesday, we want an Azimio PG meeting,” Kalonzo said.
High Court Declares Kenya Kwanza Not the Majority Party
On Friday, February 7, a three-judge bench ruled against Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s decision to recognize Kenya Kwanza as the majority party in Parliament.

The court found that Wetang’ula violated the Constitution in making the controversial determination, paving the way for a potential leadership reshuffle in the National Assembly.
