Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has stepped up her support for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) across the county, championing inclusive education and empowering community-based organizations.
Maina spoke at Raimu Integrated Primary School during the official handover of a fully equipped dormitory funded by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Board under the Best Practice Demonstration Programme.

The new facility aims to improve the learning environment for pupils with special needs by providing accessible and dignified residential accommodation within the school compound.
Maina said children with disabilities should not be disadvantaged by physical barriers when accessing education.

“All children deserve an equal opportunity to access quality education. By ensuring our special needs learners have dignified, accessible residential facilities right within their school compound, we are creating an inclusive environment where no child is left behind because of their physical condition,” stated Njeri.
The development comes as part of efforts to improve facilities for learners with special needs and make schools more accessible to children living with disabilities.
Maina also took her empowerment programme to Gatunguru, where she led the issuance of National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) cheques to various community-based organisations.
The funds are expected to support socio-economic initiatives and strengthen the capacity of local groups, particularly those working with vulnerable members of the community.
The empowerment programme forms part of efforts to provide community organisations with resources to undertake income-generating and development activities.
MP Warns Youth Against Political Violence
During the events, Njeri Maina also urged young people in Kirinyaga to avoid being drawn into political violence and instead focus on activities that improve their economic prospects and communities.

She cautioned youths against allowing politicians to use them to cause unrest during periods of political competition.
“I urge our youth to reject any attempts by politicians to use them as instruments of violence. Do not allow yourselves to be recruited into political clashes that destroy your future,” she said.
Maina urged young people to prioritize education, economic empowerment and community development rather than participating in political confrontations.
The commissioning and empowerment activities were attended by several local leaders, including Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango and David Mathenge.
The leaders supported initiatives to promote inclusive education, expand opportunities for vulnerable groups, and encourage young people to participate peacefully in community and political affairs.
