The National Police Service (NPS) has partnered with Del Monte Kenya to launch a specialized security protection unit.
Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, on Thursday, April 2, officially launched the Administration Police Service (APS) Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) – Del Monte Sector.
CIPU, established in 2016, is a cornerstone of the Administration Police Service, dedicated to safeguarding Kenya’s critical infrastructure.
As the largest unit within the APS, CIPU plays a pivotal role in ensuring the security and resilience of assets essential to the nation’s economic, social, and security framework.

The plan brings APS officers into a more structured and coordinated role alongside Del Monte’s existing security teams, including long-standing partners G4S and GardaWorld.
It aims to improve response times, manage risks more effectively, and ensure that security is handled professionally and responsibly, while remaining accountable to the surrounding communities.
According to NPS, the newly established deployment is a strategic response that delivers a dedicated, intelligence-led approach to safeguarding the investment, employees, and the neighboring community.
“It will enhance surveillance, strengthen rapid response, and ensure a sustained law enforcement presence in the area,” NPS said in a statement.

IG Kanja noted that the initiative stems from concerns raised during the Jukwaa la Usalama – Kiambu Chapter, where stakeholders called for more coordinated, responsive, and community-centered security solutions.
He emphasized that he wants to see more of this in Kenya, where big companies and state security don’t just coexist but work together under clear rules that hold everyone accountable.
“Del Monte has shown they are serious about getting this right. By putting the community at the heart of this agreement, we’re making sure this partnership benefits the people living and working here,” noted IG Kanja.
On his part, Del Monte Kenya Managing Director Wayne Cook, welcomed the partnership, saying it is anchored on the principles of responsible, community-conscious policing, with a strong focus on safeguarding both the company’s operations and the surrounding communities.
He added that it responds to emerging security challenges in the area, ensuring a more structured, responsive, and collaborative approach to security management.
Its main mission is to protect Kenya’s critical infrastructure from threats such as vandalism, sabotage, and terrorism, supporting the APS’s commitment to national security and sustainable development.
