Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has asked the African Union to direct its member states to cut off all diplomatic ties with Israel.
Nyong’o released a statement on Tuesday, November 14, lamenting that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine affected many countries across the world.
He further faulted Israel for fueling the conflict and invading the nation.
“The bloody conflict between Israel and Palestine has had a ripple effect on many countries across the world.
“We would like to appeal to the African Union to call upon all its member governments to Immediately Break Diplomatic Relations with Israel in solidarity with our comrades in Gaza and the West Bank,” he stated.
Reason for the Statement
In addition, the Kisumu governor noted that, if the situation escalates further, it will affect the already strained humanitarian aid in Gaza.
“It is now clear that Zionist Israel, much against the interest of all progressive forces in the Arab world and Israel herself, is planning a major bloody invasion of Gaza and the West Bank sooner rather than later,” stated Nyong’o
“This will worsen the already grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank,” he added.

In response to the statement, Kenyans on X questioned the governor’s authority to make such orders.
Many advised him to deal with some of the local conflicts and concerns instead of speaking of Interntional matters.
On the other hand, other netizens lauded the governor for taking a stance on the matter and calling on relevant authorities to take action.
Notably, Nyong’o signed the statement as the United Nations (UN) Advisor on Local and Regional Governments and the Governor of Kisumu County.

In addition, Wanga’s statement asked relevant authorities to have mercy on the innocent victims of the conflict, expressing her sympathy to the affected families.
“The people of Kenya and their government hereby express deepest sympathy and send condolences to the families of all victims.
“It is crucial that we prioritize the protection and welfare of innocent civilians, who bear the brunt of these senseless acts of violence,” her statement read in part.
