Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the United States and European partners for increased air defence support as Russia intensifies attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, critical infrastructure, and residential areas.
In a statement shared on his X account on January 25, he confirmed that this week alone, Russian forces launched more than 1,700 attack drones, over 1,380 guided aerial bombs, and 69 missiles of various types, according to Zelenskyy.
“This week alone, the Russians have launched more than 1,700 attack drones, over 1,380 guided aerial bombs, and 69 missiles of various types. Every massive attack by Russia can become devastating,” Zelenskyy stated.
Additionally, he stated that the scale of the assaults had put significant pressure on Ukraine’s air defences, prompting urgent requests for additional missile supplies.
Zelenskyy appealed while meeting leaders in Vilnius, Lithuania, and coordinating with partners in the region, including Poland.
He emphasised the need for stronger protection of Ukrainian skies and highlighted the ongoing cooperation with international allies to counter Russia’s military threat.
The Ukrainian president warned that each large-scale attack has the potential to cause widespread devastation, reinforcing the critical importance of continuous support for air defence systems.

“Everyone must clearly understand the threat coming from Russia, and it is our nations that understand this best. I thank everyone who is helping us stand strong,” he said
Zelenskyy Criticises Europe for Inaction Amid Ukraine-Russia War
Earlier, the Ukrainian president criticised European allies for a slow and inadequate response to Russia’s invasion nearly four years ago, warning that the continent’s hesitation has left Ukraine vulnerable.
During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Zelenskyy compared Europe’s response to the film Groundhog Day, in which the main character is forced to relive the same day again, suggesting that little has changed despite repeated warnings.
“Europe still feels more like a geography, a history, a tradition, not a real political force, not a great power,” Zelenskyy said.

He accused European leaders of moving too slowly on key decisions, underinvesting in defense, failing to stop Russia’s so-called shadow fleet of oil tankers that bypass international sanctions, and hesitating to use frozen Russian assets in Europe to help finance Ukraine.
Zelenskyy’s Meeting with Trump in Davos
Zelenskyy’s remarks came after a meeting with Trump, where he described the discussions as productive and substantive.
Meanwhile, during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Davos said his message to Putin is that the war in Ukraine must end.
Elsewhere, during the annual meeting of Global elites, Trump made an oft-repeated claim on Wednesday that Putin and Zelenskyy were close to a deal.
“I believe they’re at a point now where they can come together and get a deal done. And if they don’t, they’re stupid, that goes for both,” said Trump.
