Police officers arrested a suspected criminal after a burglary incident in Likoni, Mombasa County.
In a statement dated January 18, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said police officers stationed at Inuka Police Station received a distress call regarding a burglary incident at Mnarani area.
The officers, led by the Officer Commanding Inuka Police Station, rushed to the scene and established that criminals armed with machetes and other crude weapons had broken into the rented house of Arafat Juma Saidi.
DCI said the miscreants gained entry by climbing over the main gate and then breaking the steel door of the house using strong metal bars.
“They stole one mobile phone and an unknown amount of money before escaping, leaving Arafat with two deep cuts on his head, necessitating medical attention at a nearby hospital,” DCI said.
However, they later found the victim with suspected stolen goods and other incriminating materials in his house subsequently arresting him.
How Police Recovered Weapons & Stolen Items
DCI narrated that the officers discovered a hole in the ceiling board of the house upon revisiting the scene.
Upon peeping through the hole, the officers uncovered four machetes, one of which was blood-stained, two kitchen knives, two televisions (55-inch and 43-inch), and sixty-one mobile phones of various brands.
They also found one portable public address system, one card reader, two copies of ID cards bearing the name Arafat Juma Saidi, and one East African passport with the same name.
Following this development, police arrested Arafat at Sagawa Medical Clinic and escorted him to Inuka Police Station with the recovered exhibits, where he awaits further processing and arraignment.
