Two police officers have been arrested after they tried to rob a suspect in Githurai, Nairobi County.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the two officers as Fredrick Githinji Waithera and Edward Chege Mwangi.

DCI said the two were arrested by police officers based at Githurai Police Post alongside Kelvin Chomba for their involvement in an attempted robbery with violence incident that unfolded along the Githurai-Soweto railway line.
The incident happened on the night of February 17, 2025, when the officers stumbled upon a disturbing scene while conducting routine patrol duties.

“The three had pinned a member of the public to the ground attempting to rob him of his valuables,” DCI said.
However, the patrolling officers intervened, arresting the trio and escorting them to Githurai Police Post.

The three have undergone processing and will be arraigned on Wednesday, February 19.
DCI has issued a stern warning to members of the public and police officers against collaborating in criminal undertakings.
Additionally, the Agency said such activities will be met with the full force of the law.
Police Officer Linked to Two Robberies
On February 17, DCI announced the arrest of a police officer linked to a violent robbery in Makueni County.
Authorities identified the officer as Dennis Wafula Wanabisi, stationed at DCI Kibwezi. He is connected to a robbery with violence incident that occurred in Mtito Andei on July 22, 2024.
According to DCI, police received reports of two robberies at Yikisaya Trading Centre in Kibwezi Sub-County on that date.

In one incident, four armed robbers stormed 021 CLUB, threatened bar attendants and customers, and demanded their valuables. One of the robbers shot a bar attendant in the stomach before the gang escaped with Ksh50,000 in cash.
The gang then moved to Darajani Shopping Centre, where they fired two shots into the air before robbing bar attendants and customers of Ksh25,850 and two mobile phones.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Officer Wanabisi was either involved in or had information about the two robberies.
Following this discovery, authorities confiscated Wanabisi’s firearm and sent the empty cartridges recovered from both crime scenes to DCI Headquarters for ballistic examination. The analysis confirmed that the cartridges came from his firearm.
On Monday, February 17, officials arraigned Wanabisi before the Makindu Law Courts.
