Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor has confirmed that the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were, died from excessive bleeding after sustaining five gunshot wounds.
Speaking during a postmortem examination conducted at the Lee Funeral Home on Saturday, Dr. Oduor revealed that the bullets struck vital organs, including the heart, and the late MPs’ chances of survival were slim.
He was shot in the chest and arm.
“We have established that he was shot a total of five times. There were two entry gunshot wounds in the left fore arm, with one bullet lodged in the same fore arm. One exited.
“He also had two gunshot wounds on the left side of the chest. There was an exit on the right side, but one was lodged in the spine, and a bullet truck in the back with the entry on the left side of the upper back,” explained the pathologist.

Further, he noted that samples of the bullets were taken for analysis, adding that aside from the bullet wounds, the late MP did not have any other injuries.
“We took samples of the bullet for ballistics analysis. We found that there were internal injuries to the internal organs.
“The bullet tracked through the heart and lungs, the liver and the aorta. The late could not have survived the injuries caused by the gunshot,” he added.

Suspects Arraigned
Meanwhile, four individuals, William Imoli Shighali, Juma Ali Haikai, Douglas Muchiri Wambugu, and David Mihigo Kagame were arraigned at the JKIA Law Courts in connection with the killing of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were.
The court granted police 30 more days to detain the suspects at Ruaraka, Muthaiga, Capitol Hill, and Kilimani police stations as investigations intensify.
According to detectives, Shighali, Haikai, and Kagame were arrested together in Roysambu, Nairobi.
Further, investigators revealed they had traced the route of a motorcycle allegedly used to tail the MP from Parliament Buildings to Wabera Street and finally to the Nairobi Funeral Home roundabout, where he was fatally shot.
Following his arrest, Shighali reportedly led officers to his residence in Umoja II estate, where they recovered $4,800 (Ksh620,000), believed to be proceeds from the crime, along with a spent cartridge.
Also, he also directed police to Haikai, where they discovered a vehicle suspected to have been used to transport the assailants to Parliament and later trail the MP.
Additionally, police say they have also recovered the motorcycle used during the assassination.
