They claim she had been struggling with stress and exhaustion because of the demanding nature of her job.
On the other hand, the employer has insisted that the claims are ‘baseless and untrue’.
Although she was entitled to one return ticket home every year, the Tiktok content moderator had not returned home since she arrived in Kenya.
Content moderation, especially for social media platforms like TikTok, is known to expose employees to disturbing and violent content, often leading to mental health challenges.

TitkTok and Sexual Livestreams in Kenya
TikTok was in an earlier expose by the BBC, accused of profiting from sexual live streams performed by teens as young as 15 in Kenya.
According to BBC, three women came forward to expose these activities, saying that they used TikTok to openly advertise and negotiate payment for more explicit content that would be sent through other messaging platforms.
“TikTok bans solicitation but the company knows it takes place, moderators have said that TikTok takes a cut of about 70% from all livestream transactions, we have previously found,” indicated the article.
Consequently, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) on March 6 announced immediate action against TikTok.
In a statement, CA directed TikTok to remove all content featuring child exploitation, including livestreams.
Also, the Authority confirmed that it was launching a formal inquiry into the allegations, working alongside relevant government agencies to determine any violations of the law.
“CA will not hesitate to issue sanctions,” it stated.
