Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and other politicians have called on President William Ruto to help former Independent and Electronic Boundaries Commision (IEBC) commissioner Irene Masit.
Speaking at the funeral of Mzee Chirchir Masit, father of the ex-Commissioner, Sudi asked Masit to come back to the country.
According to him, Masit’s case was well known by the president, and she ought to be able to come back home by now.
Masit missed her father’s burial due to what speakers at the funeral said was the fear for her safety, as she remained in exile.
“Irene is not an unknown person to us. We want to tell her wherever she is to pack her bags and come back home,” said Sudi.

At the same time, Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Rep Jane Kiptoo called on Azimio leader Raila Odinga to speak to the president, especially because they had decided to work together.
Additionally, she fronted the idea of giving Masit a job when she comes back to the country, adding that she was more experienced than most of the officials working in government.
“It is very unfortunate that Irene Masit is missing in the celebration of her father who lived for over 100 years. Raila, you have chosen to be the image of Kenya by agreeing with William Ruto.
“Raila speak to Ruto, we want Irene to come back home. And she should not come back and remain jobless because she has more experience than Joho, Oparanya and the rest. Why is she in exile and the rest are within the country,” she said.

Raila Responds to Plea on helping Irene Masit
In his response, Raila said that he had spoken to Irene Masit and that he was aware of her situation, adding that her father was hurt by the situation.
“I bring condolences from Irene Masit. I spoke to her for a very long time yesterday. She would have loved to be here today, but we all know why she could not.
“She asked me to say these two things. She said her father was hurt by how she was treated by the government forcing her to leave the country,” he said.
Furthermore, Raila said that Masit felt sorry for her father’s troubles caused by the Kenya National Highway authority.
According to Raila’s message, these challenges contributed to the ultimate demise of Mzee Chirchir Masit.
“She was called a liar and a traitor. That is the democracy we have here in Kenya. However, she said that she would love to come back to the country,” Raila said.
“Irene also told me that her father was not happy about the road that KeNHA constructed in the middle of his home, stressing him and contributing to his ultimate demise.”
