The Russian Embassy in Kenya has flagged a video of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin that has been circulating online and claiming that the President of Russia will provide support to Kenyan Gen Z in their demonstrations as fake.
In a statement on July 4, the Russian Embassy noted that the information is false and urged caution when sharing such misleading content.
“We have noticed that a fake video of the President of Russia has been circulating in Kenyan social media, voice-over and captions were added over a real footage of a past address by the Russian President,” reads part of the statement.
In the video seen by The Kenya Times, the authors claimed that many countries are currently experiencing economic challenges and mostly from Africa.
Further, the flagged video noted that the harsh economic challenges have led to demonstrations, citing the ongoing youth led demonstrations in Kenya.
Putin Supports Anti-Ruto Protests
In addition, the video noted that it is inspiring to see the unity and strong voice of the youth in Kenya, and that Russia, admires such courage.

“There have been demonstrations about rejecting this year finance bill, and guess who are leading the demonstrations, Gen Z, am very proud of the youth in that country, because they have unity and one voice and as Russia, we only congratulate the brave,” said the flagged video.
Russian Embassy Issues Advisory to Citizens in Kenya
The video surfaced against the backdrop of allegations that Russia was among foreign forces sponsoring the anti-government protests.
Despite the allegations, the diplomatic community in Kenya remained on the sidelines during the protests save for a few instances when select countries issued travel advisories.
The Russian Embassy in Kenya had issued an advisory for its citizens, advising them to avoid crowded places in various cities due to the escalating internal political tensions.
In the advisory released in a press statement on Tuesday, June 25, the Embassy mentioned cities like Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu among areas where citizens were supposed to exercise caution.

While the statement didn’t detail the political situation, it stressed the importance of safety.
Further, Russian citizens were urged to stay updated through local news and embassy announcements, and to keep in touch with their families. Additionally, the embassy recommended reporting any emergencies promptly.
