President William Ruto has announced the nationwide re-introduction of Kazi Mtaani Initiative.
This follows the abolishment of the program in 2022.
Speaking during the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations on Sunday, June 1, in Homa Bay county, the head of state indicated that the government decided to provide job opportunities for youth across the country.
Additionally, President Ruto noted that the program will take effect in the following week.
“Stepping into long-term employment, the youth of Homa Bay, please be prepared.
“From next week, we will be rolling out Kazi Mtaani across the country. Youths 110,00 will benefit from the program,” announced Ruto.

“The government of Kenya has partnered with the World Bank to roll out the Ksh20 billion NYOTA program,” added Ruto.

Why Ruto Abolished Kazi Mtaani
The president abolished the program in 2022 to in turn include the youth in the affordable housing plan in the country through the Juakali industry.
Further, Ruto promised to allocate 40 per cent of the affordable housing work to small businesses.
“Kazi Mtaani is outdated now, the work now is building these houses, and the first people to get jobs in this project will be from Kibra,
“The 500 youths per ward hired in theKazi Mtaaniprogram will be used to construct these homes. You asked for job opportunities, here they are,” Ruto announced then.
Notably, the first phase of Kazi Mtaani kicked off in April 2020 as a pilot program that focused on select informal settlements in the eight counties of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kilifi, Kwale, and Mandera.
It was introduced under The National Hygiene Program (NHP) to cushion the youths from the effects of the COVID19 pandemic.
