President William Ruto has reappointed former East African Court of Justice (EACJ) judge Charles Nyachae as the Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government (KSG) in fresh appointments.
In a gazette notice dated July 11, Nyachae, who was among the shortlisted candidates for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson position but missed it, will serve the role for the next three years, effective Monday, July 13.
Nyachae was first appointed to the position in January 2024 by President William Ruto.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6(1)(a) of the Kenya School of Government Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, reappoint Charles Nyachae to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government Council for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 13th July 2025,” reads the notice.

Nyachae served as a judge at the Arusha-based EACJ, First Instance Division, from 2018 to 2024. He is the son of the late Simeon Nyachae, a former powerful Cabinet Minister and leader of the FORD People Party.
Charles Nyachae began his legal career in 1983 after being called to the Bar of England and Wales at Lincoln’s Inn and was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1986, the same year he founded Nyachae & Company Advocates.
He has held key roles in Kenya’s legal and governance sectors, including Chairperson of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (2010–2015) and Commissioner at the Kenya Law Reform Commission (2003–2006).

Nyachae also served as Chairperson of the Institute of Education in Democracy (1999–2003), Chairman of the International Commission of Jurists – Kenya Section (1991–1993) and was a Council Member of the Law Society of Kenya (1991–1992).
Earlier, he worked as a State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers from 1984 to 1986, focusing on legislative drafting, commercial law, and litigation.
He has a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of London, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Stirling in Scotland.
CS Ruku Appoints KSG Members
Meanwhile, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has reappointed and appointed new members to the KSG Council.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6(1)(f) of the Kenya School of Government Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes reappoints Linnet Mirehane to be a member of the Kenya School of Government Council for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 13th July 2025,” the statement reads.

In a separate notice, Ruku also appointed Leonida Chelagat Mitei, to serve as members of the Council for a similar term of three years, effective Friday July 11, 2025.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 6(1) of the Kenya School of Government Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes has appointed Leonida Chelagat Mitei, under paragraph (f), and Dr. Francis Owino, under paragraph (h), to be members of the Kenya School of Government Council for a period of three (3) years, with effect from 11th July 2025,” read the notice.
At the same time President William Ruto has appointed former Cooperatives PS Ali Noor Ismail as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Pest Control Products Board for a three-year term, effective July 11, 2025
In a separate appointment, the Head of State also named Abdi Mude Ibrahim as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute, also for a three-year term, with effect from the same date.
