President William Ruto‘s close allies in the Senate and National Assembly have hinted at a plan to accommodate former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in government after he lost the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson position.
In a statement on February 17, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei said the legislature must implement the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

Cherargei said the amendment will allow Raila served in the Kenya Kwanza government as Prime Minister
“We must now fully implement the NADCO Report by amending the constitution 2010 through creating the office of the Prime Minister (PM)and allow Raila Odinga to serve Kenyans in that capacity,” Cherargei said.

Belgut MP Nelson Koech made similar remarks in a television breakfast show.
Koech, the chairperson of the Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee, in the National Assembly, said Raila should be given a position in government especially the Prime Minister post.

“We could even do better by having the office of the Prime Minister. I’m just having a wild thought on what could happen,” he said.
However, Koech advised that the NADCO report recognizes the Leader of the Opposition’s office be revoked to give room for the discussion.

How Raila Will Help Govt
Additionally, Koech said Raila will join the government to offer leadership and support President Ruto
“We have to find a structure that will accommodate Raila Odinga to continue doing his job. I don’t think it’s really about positions for Raila Odinga, it’s about the resource that he can give us,” Koech noted.
He explained that the Kenya Kwanza government should use Raila’s experience to develop the country.
“We in Kenya Kwanza should accommodate that experience and the counsel he will give us and it will help in bettering our country and our management,” he said.

Senator Cherargei also highlighted that Kenya should not misuse Raila’s experience like the AU did.
He emphasized that the only way to reward Raila is to make him Prime Minister in Ruto’s administration.
“We cannot allow such brilliant leadership and experience to go waste the way Africa union did it,” he said.
“This is the only way we can appreciate and reward him for his fight for rule of law and democracy in Kenya.”
