Ruto Orders Gun Handling Training for All NYS Officers

President William Ruto has ordered that all National Youth Service (NYS) officer be trained in gun handling. 

According to Ruto, this will ensure that the graduates are ready to protect the country when need arises. 

Therefore, he has ordered the Ministry of Defence and Interior Ministry to put in place measures to ensure that the courses are implemented. 

“All security agencies must give priority to our NYS men and women because of their demonstrated discipline and training in paramilitary training.

‘The minister responsible for NYS should in consultation with the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Interior further the initiative to make sure that the paramilitary training that these young men and women will include a course in firearms to make sure that they stand ready to protect the country when the need arises,” said Ruto.

Ruto Promises NYS Officers Military Jobs

Additionally, Ruto explained that the NYS officers were disciplined and committed to service, adding that the government had put in place measures to ensure that they got job placement after graduating. 

“At the same time, the National Youth Service (NYS) remains indispensable in efforts to enhance public service delivery and national security.

“The government has upheld our commitment to recruit significant number of service men and women into the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and other ensured job placements for NYS graduates.”

Furthermore, the president has directed that the next cohort of recruits takes 20,000 individuals, approving an addition of 200 cadet officers into the NYS.

NYS In Charge of Kazi Mtaani Mtaani 

The head of state has also directed that NYS be in charge of the Mtaani Initiative cohort.

According to him, the move will allow the youth take part in managing the environment and help Kenya respond to the issue of climate change.

“I want to announce that the NYS will be supervising the cohort young people that shortly we will be recruiting under our climate works mtaani initiative that will bring more young people into the space of greening Kenya,

“Managing our environmental sustainability and making sure that we respond to matters changes using climate action initiatives that we have in place,” he added.
