President William Ruto has sent a message of support to Harambee Starlets ahead of their final clash with Australia in the FIFA Women’s Series Tournament today.
In his address on April 15, Ruto urged the team to play with confidence and assured them of nationwide backing.
“Harambee Starlets, we are behind you as you take on Australia today. Play your game and know that the whole nation of Kenya is supporting you,” Ruto said.
Ruto’s Message to Harambee Starlets Sparks Public Outrage
Public reactions emerged online following President William Ruto’s message of support for the Harambee Starlets, with some users linking the timing of the remarks to ongoing concerns about rising fuel prices.
“Mr. President, it seems you are living in your own world. The hottest issue right now is fuel prices; you post about football at such a critical moment instead of addressing the country on the emerging issue. Who advises you?” read a reply from @AHanniel to Ruto’s post.
Other Kenyans called for a reduction in fuel prices to ease pressure on citizens, while also criticizing repeated political messaging, which they said diverts attention from pressing economic concerns.
