Safaricom has taken a stand on reports linking it to the arrest of the late X influencer, Albert Omondi Ojwang.
In a statement on Wednesday, June 11, Safaricom CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa expressed his shock and concern over remarks made by former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi.
Muturi suggested a connection between Safaricom and Ojwang’s arrest at his home in Homa Bay County.
“We are therefore concerned and disturbed by the remarks by Hon. Justin Muturi linking us to the unfortunate incident,” stated Ndegwa.
Consequently, the company asked Kenyans to remain calm, ignore inciteful rhetoric, and continue demanding a thorough and timely investigation.
“Our ask to all Kenyans is to ignore any attempts to incite them and remain firm in demanding accountability through transparent investigations,” added the statement.

CAK Denies Issueing Ojwang’s Location
Earlier, the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) denied allegations that it played any role in the events leading up to the death of Albert Ojwang.
In a statement, the Authority dismissed claims circulating on social media that it provided location data to law enforcement officers to track the deceased.
Further, the regulator said it had no involvement whatsoever in the matter adding that the authority does not have access to real-time location data of mobile subscribers.
The CA clarified its legal role, stating that it acts strictly as a regulator for the communications sector and does not initiate or take part in operational data requests.
According to the statement, any request for subscriber data by law enforcement must go through a legal process, including obtaining a valid court order or lawful request under Kenyan law.
