The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has directed all Senior school principals to submit updated Grade 10 learner data by subject.
In a notice published on Wednesday, April 1, KICD said it is seeking to confirm Grade 10 enrolment data in all public senior schools.
The institute wants updated figures on the number of learners taking different subjects by the end of the first term in 2026.
“All principals of public senior schools are requested to submit the current number of Grade 10 learners by subject and textbooks received per subject,” read the notice in part.

According to KICD, this will inform the second phase of textbook distribution for Grade 10 learners to ensure that all learners have received textbooks for all subjects on a One-to-One basis, as per Government Policy.
The institute informed all Senior School Principals that the first phase of the distribution of Grade 10 textbooks has been completed, guided by the data initially provided by the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Govt to Pri0ritize Capitation and Grade 10 Textbooks in Second Term
Meanwhile, Education PS Julius Bitok announced that the government plans to prioritize the release of capitation funds to schools and ensure the full distribution of Grade 10 textbooks ahead of the start of the second term.
PS Bitok, while conducting an inspection of ongoing school construction projects in Makueni County on Tuesday, March 31, said the State is targeting 100 percent delivery of all recommended learning materials for Grade 10 learners.

The assurance and KICD announcement come amid earlier concerns over potential learning disruptions in senior schools due to textbook shortages under the new curriculum.
In February, the Ministry of Education said it had already distributed over 8.3 million course materials and literary texts to public schools, representing about 71 percent of the national requirement.
This comes after KICD, in a status update issued on February 15, attributed the delays to fluctuating learner numbers and subject choices following placement into senior schools.
KICD Chief Executive Charles Ong’ondo noted that the initial printing pace had been slower than expected.
