The Senate approved the 7-member list of the House Business Committee (HBC) on Tuesday, October 4 in its first sitting after their inauguration.
Moreover, twenty-nine Senators approved the committee consisting of four Kenya Kwanza Alliance members and three Azimio members while 23 Senators voted against it.
The House Business Committee member list was passed even as Azimio allied members protested the membership of Mandera Senator Ali Roba.
Likewise, Kenya Kwanza coalition fronted Roba’s name while Azimio legislators claimed that the former Governor was still their member.
“We must have some sanctity and respect for the marriages people enter into,” Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said.
Nonetheless, Roba who is the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Party Leader signed a pre-coalition agreement with Azimio in February 2022.
However, after the August 9, 2022, general elections, Roba teamed up with Kenya Kwanza and claimed he had no legal ties with Azimio.

In addition, the former governor listed as a House Business Committee member filed a lawsuit over the issue. However, the court is yet to decide.
“We do not have anything in our files of the purported agreement being in Azimio,” Roba noted on the floor.
Nevertheless, the house Speaker Amason Kingi intervened and ruled that Roba’s nomination was proper.
“The Speaker does not and cannot manage political parties. Any Senator can be nominated and serve in any committee,” he stated.
Similarly, those approved for the House Business Committee include Veronica Nduati (nominated), Hillary Segei (Bomet), and Tabitha Mutinda (nominated) from Kenya Kwanza.
Moreover, those who were approved in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya outfit include Margaret Kamar (Uasin Gishu), Mohammed Faki (Mombasa), and Ledama Ole Kina (Narok).
