Days after the government launched the Social Health Authority (SHA), the ministry of health on Saturday, October 5 published a list of state-run, faith based, and privately owned hospitals where patients can access dialysis and cancer treatment.
This comes after an uproar from members of the public, following frustrations in getting treatment since the roll out of SHA on October 1, 2024.

The hospitals are spread across the country in different counties.
Hospitals where patients can get renal treatment (dialysis) include AIC Kijabe Medical Centre in Kiambu, Thika Level 5, and Jordan Hospital Kitui

Others are Lamu District Hospital, Aga Khan Hospital Mombasa, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Mater Hospital Nairobi, KNH-Othaya, and Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre in Uasin Gishu County among others.
Those who need cancer treatment can be accessed at Kenyatta National Hospital, Bungoma District Hospital, Mater Hospital, AIC Kijabe Medical Centre in Kiambu, and Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre among others.

The list of SHA-contracted faith based and privately owned hospitals where individuals can get treatment has Aga Khan Medical Centre Bomet, Oasis Doctors Plaza Webuye, Dadaab District Hospital Garisa, and Oasis Doctors Plaza Homabay.
Importantly, Kenyans will have access to 4760 County Government Healthcare Providers across the country.

Once you visit the page, you can peruse different categories depending on the services you are looking for. The categories are: CONTRACTED COUNTY GOK HCPS, CONTRACTED FAITH BASED PRIVATE HCPS, CANCER CARE HCPs, and RENAL CARE HCPs.
Services Kenyans Can Get in Different Hospitals under SHA
Kenyans can access various services in different hospitals under SHA.
According to the Ministry of Health, Kenyans can seek outpatient services, inpatient and critical care services, dialysis, assistive devices, last office services, and accident and emergency services under the new insurance cover (SHA).
SHA also covers overseas treatment, maternity services, surgical services, optical services, dental healthcare services, oncology services, and pharmacy services.

In addition, mental health service, rehabilitative services, medical imaging services, specialized essential diagnostic services, and screening for common diseases are provided under the new scheme.
Chronic and Emergency Cover
Furthermore, under SHA’s chronic cover, services rendered include diabetes treatment, kidney disease, kidney transplant, hypertension, cancer management, asthma treatment, alcohol abuse management, and mental disorders like bipolar, depression, and anxiety.

In the emergency category, SHA covers cardiac and pulmonary distress, major trauma such as severe burns, head injuries, and multiple fractures, shock states such as septic and dehydration, pregnancy complications, seizures and ambulance services.
As for critical care services, SHA covers critical care admissions in intensive care units (ICU) and high dependency unit (HDU) including neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), burns, and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU)
