Simat Boys High School is a public boys’ boarding secondary school located in Uasin Gishu County.
The institution was established in the 1970s and is classified under the C2 category within the Ministry of Education’s revised institutional classification since 2026.
For over five decades, Simat Boys High School has served learners drawn primarily from Uasin Gishu County and neighbouring regions, earning a reputation as one of the area’s long-standing boys’ institutions.
Simat Boys High School was founded in 1970 during a period of rapid expansion of secondary education in the Rift Valley region.
The school was established to meet the growing demand for boys’ boarding education in Eldoret and Kapseret, and it has steadily developed into a County institution serving students from diverse backgrounds.
As part of the national education structure at the time, Simat Boys High School operated both ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level streams in its early years.
The ‘A’ Level stream was phased out in 1989 following the nationwide transition to Kenya’s 8-4-4 education system. Thereafter, student admissions were determined by performance in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
In line with ongoing education reforms, the school has since transitioned into the senior school structure under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.
From January 2026, Simat Boys High School began admitting Grade 10 learners, offering specialised pathways in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Social Sciences, and Arts and Sports.

Admissions into the senior school from January 2026 are determined by learner performance in the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA), marking a shift from the former KCPE-based placement system, which was phased out following the introduction of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
Simat Boys High School performance
Simat Boys High School has recorded mixed academic performance over the years. The school posted one of its strongest results in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, achieving a mean score of 8.7429 (B plain). The results placed the school among the better-performing County boys’ schools in the region that year.
According to the 2022 KCSE analysis, the school registered 18 B+, 46 B (plain), and 37 B- grades. A small number of candidates attained C+ grades, while no candidates scored C (plain) and below.
However, in subsequent years, the performances dipped. The school recorded significantly lower mean scores in 2023 and 2024, prompting discussions among parents, the school administration, and education stakeholders on management, academic strategies, and learner support.
These concerns were compounded by student unrest and parent protests in July 2025 over alleged financial mismanagement and school fees, events that drew public attention to the institution.
School fees
Under Ministry of Education guidelines effective January 2026, fees for public senior secondary schools were standardised based on institutional classification.
As a C2 category public senior school, Simat Boys High School has an official annual tuition fee of Ksh45,054. However, the total cost for boarding students may be higher once additional approved charges are included.
