History of St. Teresa’s Girls
St. Teresa had a humble beginning, as a primary School in 1935, with two distinct sections, the Girls Boarding section and Boys Day section, with two Headteachers in the church compound.
However, as the population of the twin sections of the school increased, it became necessary to separate the Boys from the Girls and the Boys moved to Kibuye mixed primary school.

In 1986, the Catholic Church, together with a group of Kisumu Catholic faithful, calling themselves the Kisumu Catholic Education Society, came up with the idea of providing Secondary Education for Girls.
In 1987, St. Teresa was registered as a single-stream boarding secondary school. To make way, the girls’ primary school was moved to a new site and renamed St. Mary’s Primary School to avoid confusion.
Between 2000 and 2005, the school population increased, requiring the construction of additional buildings.
In 2000, the first fundraising was done, together with the school’s savings, and two Laboratories and four classrooms were constructed, named the Austin Orowe Wing.
Additionally, to address congestion in the dormitory, the Board sought assistance from the Franciscan Brothers in Germany, and the donation was used to put up a storey dormitory named St. Francis in 2004.
To address the school’s classroom needs, the constituency development fund committee agreed to construct a two-storey building comprising 12 classrooms.
Between 2008 and 2009, the school bought a 51-seater bus and sunk a borehole to eliminate the perennial water scarcity.
The school continues to do well in curricular and co-curricular activities, as seen in the ever-improving results and performance in games, drama, and music.
