Katheka Boys Secondary School is a public, boys’ school established in 1974, situated in Eastern Province, Kitui County (Kitui West District), Mutonguni Division, Kauwi Zone.
Under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) Katheka Boys is categorized as C2.

The school operates as a boarding secondary institution and falls under the regular SNE category, with no special needs designation.
From January 2026, the institution began admitting Grade 10 learners, offering specialised pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences, and Arts and Sports, in line with the CBE structure.
Admissions into the senior school from January 2026 are determined by learner performance in the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA).
History of Katheka Boys Secondary School
St. Thomas Aquinas Katheka Boys Secondary School was founded in 1974 as Harambee Sec. School to assist the local children who could not get places in Provincial and National Schools or access to education. The school is sponsored by the Catholic Church.

In 1994, all the girls were phased out, and it became a boys ‘ school purely.
A second stream was started in 1996, and the enrollment continued to increase, posing challenges to all existing facilities.
In 2008, a third stream was started. Today, the school is a fully pledged provincial school with a population of 480 students, 14 teachers, and 17 support staff.
The school has 5 dormitories, 11 classrooms, 2 labs, a computer room, a library, 4 staff houses, 1 kitchen, and a multipurpose hall, among other facilities.
Performance and Enrollment
Katheka Boys has maintained a good run in performance at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, exams.
In the 2023 KCSE examinations, the school recorded a mean score of 6.698 points, equivalent to a C+. Out of the 93 candidates who sat for the exams, 52 attained the minimum grade required for direct university entry, representing 55.9 percent.
Katheka Boys High School has an enrollment of over 800 active students.

Under Ministry of Education guidelines effective January 2026, fees for public senior secondary schools were standardised based on institutional classification.
As a C2 category public senior school, the school has an official annual tuition fee of Ksh45,054.
