A viral social media video has sparked widespread debate after a pregnant woman claimed she could influence her unborn child’s sexual orientation by playing specific music.

The clip, shared on TikTok, shows the woman placing headphones or speakers near her stomach while playing songs and suggesting the practice could shape her baby’s future sexuality.

The video quickly gained traction, drawing thousands of reactions, comments, and shares across platforms.

Many users responded with humor or support, while others criticized the claim as misleading and inappropriate.

Viral reactions and online divide

The video’s comment section reflects a broader divide in public opinion. Some users joked about using music or pop culture to influence their children, while others said the idea was troubling.

Comments cited in coverage by BlazeTV included parents expressing hopes about their children’s future identity, as well as others celebrating similar ideas. Critics, however, argued that such discussions reduce complex aspects of identity to simplistic or performative trends.

The viral spread of the clip shows how quickly social media content can move from niche humor to a global conversation, especially when it touches on sensitive topics such as sexuality and parenting.

Commentary on TikTok fuels the controversy

The debate intensified after conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey addressed the video on her platform. She criticized both the original post and the reactions it received, arguing that discussions about a child’s sexuality before birth were inappropriate.

Stuckey described the trend as harmful and linked it to what she called “toxic mommy culture,” suggesting that some parents use social media to seek validation through their children.

Her remarks drew support from audiences who share similar views, but also prompted backlash from those who accused her of misrepresenting the tone of the original video, which some viewers interpreted as satire or lighthearted content.

Experts reject the claim

Medical and scientific experts have long stated that there is no evidence that external factors like music can determine a child’s sexual orientation before birth.

Sexual orientation is widely understood to be influenced by a combination of biological, genetic, and environmental factors, none of which can be controlled through prenatal exposure to specific songs or sounds.

Health professionals caution that viral claims like these can contribute to misinformation, particularly when presented without context or clarification. While some social media users may treat such content as a joke, others may interpret it as factual.

Why this matters

The controversy comes at a time when debates about parenting, identity, and online influence are increasingly visible in public discourse, including in the United States under President Donald Trump.

The rapid spread of the video shows how platforms like TikTok can amplify unverified claims to large audiences within hours. It also shows how quickly such content can become politicized, drawing in commentators, media outlets, and advocacy groups.

More broadly, the incident raises questions about the role of social media in shaping conversations about children and identity.
