Tracking a Court Case in Kenya: Here’s How to Do It Online

Accessing judicial services in Kenya has become faster and more convenient for Kenyans.

You can now check the status of a court case online, a move to eliminate the need for long queues and in-person visits to court registries.

If you are following a case, the Kenya Judiciary’s Case Tracking System (CTS) offers a user-friendly way to stay updated from anywhere in the country.

All you need is a smartphone, computer, or tablet with internet access.

Steps to Check Your Case Status Online

The CTS is available through the Kenya Judiciary’s official website. Here’s how to use it:

• Visit the Judiciary Portal: Open your web browser and go to the official Kenya Judiciary website. (The Judiciary | Causelist Portal) 
• Find the Case Search Section: Navigate to the “Services” tab, then click on “Case Search.”
• Enter Case Information: Provide relevant details such as the case number (e.g., HCCC/1234/2023) in the required field.
• View Case Status: Submit the information to see the status and details of the case.

This digital tool is part of the Judiciary’s ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, transparency, and public access to justice.

The judiciary is embracing technology to better serve Kenyans and enhance accountability in the legal system.

How to Pay Court Fees via M-Pesa

To complete the payment:

• On your mobile device, open the M-Pesa menu and select Lipa na M-Pesa.
• Choose Paybill and enter the paybill number 553388.
• In the Account Number field, input the unique number from the invoice (e.g., EXEDREDRS).
• Enter the payment amount and your PIN, then confirm.

After payment, you will receive a confirmation message from KCB. The Judicial system will automatically generate a case number. Be sure to note this number on your documents.

Print the electronic receipt. This receipt will be required during your court visit, where the cashier will issue an official receipt and stamp your documents accordingly.

The Judiciary is enhancing its digital transition with plans to roll out a court recording and transcription system, with further expansion expected.
