The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has denied charging South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro with attempted murder.
In a statement, DPP Renson Ingonga’s office indicated that a statement circulating on social media stating that his office had conducted investigations against the MP is fake.
The flagged document alleged that DPP received an enquiry file with the outcome on the investigations into a case implicating Osoro for creating disturbance during a function in Kisii.
“We wish to notify members of the public that the Press statement circulating on social media purportedly to be from ODPP is fake,” the ODPP noted in the statement.

Details of the Fake Letter from DPP
According to the fake statement, the DPP received an inquiry file on November 22, 2023, that detailed that Osoro created disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace and creating disturbance, at the funeral.
Subsequently, on January 12, the ODPP received a further enquiry file from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with the outcome of the investigations pointing at culpability of Osoro and others.
“After independent and in-depth review of the evidence presented, I find that there is abundant evidence to sustain criminal charges against the said member of parliament and Police officers named therein,” added the flagged statement.

Osoro Vs Simba Arati
In an earlier interview with a local station, Osoro distanced himself from the January 8 chaos witnessed at the event where Kisii Governor Simba Arati was presiding over the release of Ward bursary fund.
Responding to allegations leveled against him, Osoro denied having brandished an AK 47 rifle from his vehicle as claimed by Arati.
In his response, Osoro also threatened to take legal action against the governor for defamation.
“The case of the Kisii conflict does not concern me. The person to blame is Governor Simba Arati. The investigation is ongoing, and the truth will be known,” Osoro said.
“The governor said that he saw me getting out of the car with an AK-47 but I don’t even know how the gun looks like. I will be heading to court to seek general damages from the governor for damaging my reputation,” Osoro stated.
During the event, Governor Arati had only started speaking when a group of rowdy youth stormed the meeting held at Nyakembene market in Boikanga Ward.
Shortly after, gunshots rented the air sending the function into disarray as people ran in different directions.
Following a confrontation between individuals thought to be Arati’s supporters and the local MP, security personnel intervened and used tear gas canisters to scatter the residents.
