Fafi Member of Parliament Yakub Salah on Monday, December 11, accused police officers stationed at the Nyayo House of manhandling him when he stepped up to highlight the plight of his constituents.
In an amateur video captured at the Nayo House, administration police officers and National Youth Service officers assigned at the usually busy registration office were seen dragging the MP out of the building.
Members of the public seeking various services were left stranded as they watched the episode with MP surrounded by the uniformed men.
Later in a statement, the MP said that he sustained injuries from the altercation that ensued at the scene.
According to him, a policewoman stationed at Nyayo House has been collecting money from members of the Somali Community seeking to apply for passports and hence his agitation.
He expressed his disapproval at the way the officers handled him alluding that it was a highlight of the challenges members of the public face while seeking registration services.
Also in his statement, Yakub claimed that officers at the registration center had humiliated five other MPs seeking audience on their grievances before him.

“It is very unfortunate that police officers at Nyayo house are mishandling the general public and today I fell victim, roughed up and seriously assaulted,” he said in the statement.
“I am the 6th MP to be humiliated by that contingent. Waziri take action!”
His complaints came against the backdrop of delays and technical hitches in the process of issuing various registration documents.

An X user named JumaG said, “The madness at Nyayo House is now at 200%. If you go there and claim that you know your rights, uanze kelele, a police officer will slap you until you see stars.
A whole Member of Parliament was slapped like burukenge at Nyayo House on Monday when he thought he was immune.”
The incident involving MP Salah came against the backdrop of the now unending complaints about delays and cases of officers demanding bribes from citizens seeking services.
Despite an assurance from Interior CS Kithure Kindiki that his Ministry was working to prevent the delays, recent reports from the center complained of slow progress with sources pointing towards another breakdown of machines as the cause.
