Kenya’s former President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Benin City, in Nigeria for the 2024 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) Democracy Dialogue to be held on Thursday June 13, 2024.
This event will be held in Edo’s State’s capital and is organized GJF founder and former Nigerian president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan co-hosted by Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki.
According to a statement from the Office of the 4th President of Kenya, this year’s dialogue is functional education and effective political leadership as a Panacea to Africa’s growth and development.
Additionally, it aims to bring together key political leaders, policy makers and experts from the continent to focus the crucial role of education in achieving development goals of African nations.

Uhuru AU Assignment
Moreover, in South Africa as he led African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) during South Africa’s General Elections.
While in South Africa, Uhuru met several leaders including the incumbent President Cyril Ramaphosa.
When he visited Ramaphosa at his residence in Pretoria, he was accompanied by Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.
Jonanthan was in South Africa as the head of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).

War with Ruto
However, Uhuru’s visit to Nigeria came days he accused President William Ruto‘s government of frustrating him by withholding his benefits and cash that is allocated to the office of Kenya’s Third Retired President.
In a statement, Kanze Dena, his spokesperson said the office had not received approximately Ksh 1 billion in the last two years as mandated by the constitution.
“In 2022/23 parliament allocated this office Ksh655 million, to date the office can only confirm absorption of roughly Ksh28 million spread across payment for allowance for domestic travels, facilitation of the trips that I mentioned earlier,” Dena said.
Likewise, Dena clarified that the former president is entitled to four international trips and only two of his trips have been facilitated by the government.

“Uhuru has undertaken several official international trips related to the roles he is engaged in and only two such trips have been honored. One to Ethiopia and another one to Burundi, ’she said.
State House takes action
Uhuru’s fiery statement forced Ruto to swing into action with State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed announcing that the two leaders held talks and agreed on a way forward.
“This morning, President William Ruto had a conversation with his predecessor in office, the 4th President, President Uhuru Kenyatta, regarding concerns about facilitating the functioning of the retired President’s office,” Mohammed said.
He added, “President Ruto has consequently constituted a team, led by the Head of Public Service, to immediately address all the issues raised, including the location of the retired President’s office and the attendant staff establishment.”
