The United Kingdom (UK) embassy in Kenya has released an updated advisory about a security threat.
The Embassy has in a Monday, November 4, alert revised an earlier warning issued by the United States, updating its position on the matter.
Moreover, the UK embassy has retracted a prior statement which had reflected the US-issued caution to travellers.
Initially, the US advised its citizens to exercise increased caution when visiting Kenya, citing general security threats. Also, they warned of disruptions due to ongoing strike action.
“Latest update: Removal of information about a US alert on increased caution in Kenya and about disruptions due to ongoing strike action,
“Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO),” the UK embassy stated.

Areas in Kenya Where the UK Warns Against Travel
Areas where the FCDO advises against traveling at all except for essential travel include the Kenya-Somalia border.
Other regions on the list include the northern parts of the east coast, Mandera County, excluding the Mandera West sub-county.
Also, Eastern Garissa County, up to 20km north-west of the A3 road, including the Boni National Reserve, Lamu County, excluding Lamu Island and Manda Island have been listed.

UK citizens have also been warned against travelling to Tana River County north of the Tana River, up to 20km north-west of the A3 road within 15km of the east coast between the Tana River and the Galana (Athi-Galana-Sabaki) River.

According to the advisory, the areas have a high risk of terrorism from Somalia-based groups.
“Due to the risk of terrorism from groups based in Somalia, FCDO advises against all but essential travel to.
“If you choose to travel, research your destinations and get appropriate travel insurance. Insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency.”
