The UN forecast on Monday, July 11 announced that the world’s population is expected to reach 8 billion on November 15, 2022.
According to a report by Secretary General Antonio Guterres, India will exceed China as the most populated country on earth in 2023.
Mr. Guterres reported that the overall population milestone should serve as a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for the planet. He further added that it serves as a moment to reflect on where we still fall short of our commitments to each other.
“This is an occasion to celebrate our diversity, recognize our common humanity, and marvel at advancements in health that have extended lifespans and dramatically reduced maternal and child mortality rates,” Guterres stated.
Moreover, the forecast by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs reported that since 1950, the world’s population has been growing at its slowest pace.
In addition, they stated that the world’s population should reach 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050. Moreover, it is expected to shoot to 10.4 billion people in the 2080s before steadying at that level until 2100.
Furthermore, the report states that despite a net drop in birth rates in several developing countries, more than half of the rise forecast in the world’s population in the coming decades will be concentrated in eight countries.
The 8 countries are said to be; the Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Egypt, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
