The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has donated Ksh 210 billion for humanitarian aid in Sudan.
Commissioner Filippo Grandi, during a briefing with President William Ruto who is also the chair of the Quartet Group of Countries on the IGAD roadmap to peace in Sudan, said the situation has escalated and the number of refugees fleeing the war is expected to hit the two million marks, and that the organization was seeking Ksh 420 billion.

“The huge number of refugees at the borders of Egypt and Chad has led to a lot of suffering. The saddest part is that the humanitarian staff are not respected and the UNHCR office in Khartoum has been destroyed,” he said.

Ruto said they were working towards ending the crisis, pleading with warring parties in Sudan to allow humanitarian aid in the country to alleviate suffering.
Forced displacement within Sudan and into neighboring countries has continued to increase since an armed conflict erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid-April 2023.

The current fighting has already displaced over 800,000 people inside Sudan. In addition, over 220,000 refugees and refugee returnees have left Sudan.
