A city Matatu SACCO, Bybuss Trans company on Wednesday, November 29, came under a pressure after a video shared on social media captured a tout harassing a female passenger.
In the amateur video captured at the Safari Park area along Thika Road, the tout and the lady were seen in an apparent altercation as the bus waited some few meters away.
The lady pleaded with the man to let her go albeit with no success compelling her to use force.
Eventually, the tout gave up in his endeavor and sent the lady to the ground with a powerful hit.
The victim then let out a loud scream to alarm passers-by around the scene. Upon noticing the sudden attention, the tout who had at the time turned his back to the lady and approaching the waiting matatu took off.
Kenyans who watched the video on social media condemned the tout’s handling of the lady with some labeling it as another case of gender-based violence in Kenya’s transport sector.
In some of the comments seen by The Kenya Times, users called for action from security agencies and the SACCO.
A Facebook user named Steve Gitukia said, “Doesn’t matter what the misunderstanding was all about, there are better and more civil ways of solving issues.”
Another user under the name Kibaara wa Kibuugi stated that, “He should face the full force of the law.”
Bybuss matatu company’s response to the video
Minutes after the video surfaced online, Bybuss Ltd issued a statement regarding the incident and the man behind the act.

As per the statement, the incident came after the matatu failed to drop the victim at the agreed stage and hence the disagreement.
Bybuss went on to state that the man was not part of its crew as earlier reported and that police officers from Kasarani Police Station had arrested him.
