The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released its five-day weather outlook, warning of persistent rainfall across several parts of the country as Kenyans head into the weekend and towards Christmas Eve.
According to the forecast valid from December 20 to December 24, 2025, rainfall is expected to persist in several regions during the festive season.
These include the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley region, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Coastal, Northeastern, and Southeastern lowlands.
The forecast also highlights strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) over Marsabit County, with residents advised to take note of the windy conditions during the forecast period.
Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley
Areas covering counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are expected to experience generally wet conditions throughout the five days.
Morning rains are forecast over a few places daily from Saturday through Wednesday. Afternoons will start with showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, then transition to general showers for the rest of the period.

At night, showers are expected in a few places. Temperatures in this region will range between 7°C and 32°C.
Highlands East of the Rift Valley
Counties east of the Rift Valley are expected to record the lowest temperatures nationally, dropping to as low as 5°C. These include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi counties.
Mornings on Saturday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be cloudy, then give way to sunny intervals, while Sunday and Monday will be generally cloudy with light rain.
The weatherman said that Saturday afternoon is expected to have thunderstorms, with consistent afternoon and night showers from Sunday to Christmas Eve.

South-Eastern Lowlands
In the South-Eastern lowlands, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta Counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, Kenya Met predicted mornings throughout the five days will be cloudy with light rains breaking into sunny intervals.
Afternoon showers are expected daily, with thunderstorms forecast on Saturday. Night showers are expected over the weekend, then the chance of showers reduces from Monday to Wednesday. Maximum temperatures in the region are forecast to reach 32°C.
Coastal Region
The Coastal region will remain warm, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 34°C. Morning showers are expected over a few places each day.

In the afternoons and at night, Saturday and Wednesday will have a chance of showers, while Sunday and Tuesday are forecast to experience showers. Monday is expected to have sunny intervals in the afternoon and partly cloudy conditions at night.
North-Western Region
The North-Western region, including Turkana and Samburu counties, will remain the hottest during the period, with maximum temperatures reaching 37°C.
On Saturday morning, there is a possibility of rainfall, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms. From Sunday to Christmas Eve, the area is forecast to experience sunny intervals during the day, while nights will be partly cloudy.
North-Eastern Region
The North-Eastern region, covering counties such as Marsabit, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, and Wajir, will also record high temperatures, with daytime highs of up to 37°C.
According to Kenya Met, rains are expected on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday mornings, while Monday and Wednesday mornings will have a chance of rain.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are forecast on Saturday, followed by showers through Tuesday, easing to a chance of showers on Wednesday. Nights are expected to become partly cloudy by Tuesday and Christmas Eve.
