The Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) has issued a warning notice to employers of Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals (VSVP).
In the notice shared on May 7, KVB said no veterinary surgeon or veterinary paraprofessional will be allowed to operate without legal registration and licensing.
“We wish to draw your attention to the following Sections of the VSVP Act: Section 13 (1) of the VSVP Act, 2011: -No person shall practice, or hold himself out, whether directly or indirectly, as practicing or being able to practice as a veterinary surgeon or veterinary paraprofessional or to take up employment as such unless he is registered and licensed,” KVB said.
Further, KVB explained that hiring unlicensed employees is against the VSVP Act and that employers found guilty will serve one year in prison or pay Ksh100,000 fine.
Registered Veterinary Professionals
The Board stated that the names of registered veterinary surgeons and paraprofessionals are updated on every March 31 of every year.
Therefore, any person whose name does not appear in the relevant register after March 31 every year is deemed not to be registered under the VSVP Act.
“In this regard, the 2024 registers for Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals can be accessed on the KVB website, on https://kenyavetboard.or.ke/en/registers,” the Board said.
