Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a strategic plan to export Kyiv-made weapons to finance the country’s defense efforts.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 6, after hosting the International Defense Industries Forum, Zelensky said the move aims to increase the share of domestically produced arms on the frontlines to over 50 percent by the end of the year.
Zelensky stated that the country’s defense industry has dramatically increased its production capacity since Russia’s full-scale invasion, with output expected to reach $35 billion in drones and missiles alone next year.

He emphasized the urgent need for funding to fully harness Ukraine’s production potential.
“Already over 40 percent of the weapons in use at the front are either made in Ukraine or produced with Ukraine. And the share of our weapons will only grow,” he said.
“The task for manufacturers, for the Government of Ukraine, for all institutions involved is that by the end of the year no less than 50 percent of the weapons at the front must be our Ukrainian weapons, and this task must be accomplished.”

Zelensky noted that the country needs funding to unleash its full potential, and they are working with every partner who can help make this possible.
He further emphasized that it is time to start exporting Ukrainian weapons—those in surplus that can be sold—to finance the types of weapons especially needed for national defense.
He also revealed that he has already instructed the government, the Office, and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to develop and present the key elements of such an export system.
To achieve this, the president announced the launch of an export initiative, currently codenamed “Zbroya”, to sell surplus Ukrainian weapons internationally.
“The working title of this program is “Zbroya” – our export product. Agreements are already in place to launch export-import platforms in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. The task is to have these platforms operational by the end of the year,” he added.

NATO Donates $2 Billion Worth of Lethal and Defensive Weapons to Ukraine
This comes a few days after North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries purchased lethal and defensive weapons for Ukraine from the United States (US) for $2 billion.
Speaking on September 2, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the weapons are part of the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.
It is critical to help Ukraine defend itself. We have, in a few weeks, already been able to channel two billion dollars of vital, lethal, sometimes lethal, sometimes also more defensive systems into Ukraine through this new program.
Rutte said NATO’s support for Ukraine is becoming stronger, and the weapons are being delivered directly from the US.
