The Government of Kenya has issued an urgent safety advisory for Kenyans in Myanmar and Thailand following a powerful earthquake that has struck both countries.
Further, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has expressed solidarity with those affected and outlined key precautions to ensure the safety of Kenyans in the region.

The earthquake, whose magnitude is yet to be officially confirmed, has caused widespread destruction in parts of Myanmar and Thailand.
However, reports indicate collapsed buildings, damaged infrastructure, and ongoing aftershocks that pose continued risks to affected communities.

Rescue efforts are underway, with local and international disaster response teams working to assess the extent of the damage and provide relief.

Kenya Advice to Citizens Affected
To ensure safety, all Kenyans in the affected regions have been advised to keep track of news and official alerts for real-time updates on aftershocks and emergency response measures.
Further, Diaspora Principal Secretary (PS) Roseline Njogu advised Kenyans to steer clear of heavily impacted areas to reduce the risk of injury from unstable buildings, debris, or landslides.
Also, Kenyans have been directed to register with the Kenyan Embassy.
“Those who have not yet registered are advised to provide their contact details for assistance and updates. The Kenya Embassy in Bangkok is available for support
“If not already registered, provide your contact details to the Kenya Embassy in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, or the nearest East African Community diplomatic mission for assistance and updates, ” added the advisory.
They have been advised to strictly adhere to evacuation orders and disaster management guidelines.
The government has additionally encouraged Kenyans to check in on fellow citizens, especially students, diaspora workers, and vulnerable individuals.
