United States (US) President Donald Trump has signed an executive order promising to defend Qatar, including through military measures, should the country face another attack.
The executive order, dated September 29, 2025, came weeks after Israel’s airstrikes on Hamas leaders in Qatar.
“In recognition of this history, and in light of the continuing threats to the State of Qatar posed by foreign aggression, it is the policy of the United States to guarantee the security and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar against external attack,” Trump said.
Additionally, the order states that any future attack on Qatar would be considered “a threat to the peace and security of the United States.”
Hence, the United States will be prepared to respond using all lawful and appropriate measures, including diplomatic, economic, and military actions if necessary.
On September 9, Israeli forces reportedly carried out strikes in Doha with multiple explosions and thick black smoke seen over the Katara District.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security agency said the targeted strike was aimed at senior Hamas leaders who have directed the group’s activities for years.
The military added that these leaders were directly responsible for the October 7 attacks and for coordinating the ongoing conflict against Israel.
However, Prime Minister Netanyahu defended the strikes, describing them as part of Israel’s ongoing effort to avenge the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed about 1,200 people and escalated the war in Gaza.
He has accused Qatar of providing a “safe haven” for Hamas, a charge that Doha has strongly denied.
