VFS Global has issued a warning to Kenyans applying for visas, cautioning them against falling victim to scams through which Kenyans have lost millions.
According to the Visa and passport application company, there are fraudsters posing as agents or intermediaries who falsely promise early visa appointments in exchange for payment.
The company noted a growing number of scams where fraudsters create fake online pages using VFS branding and logos, deceiving innocent applicants by offering appointment slots at a cost. These scams often target job seekers and travellers during peak visa seasons.
“We strongly advise all applicants to be careful of touts and fraudulent parties who falsely promise early appointment bookings in exchange for payment,” said Stephen Kubasu, General Manager, Operations at VFS Global.

VFS Tightens Security Measures
Consequently, VFS Global has implemented stricter anti-fraud measures for its services, including restricting access to its visa centres to only individuals with valid appointments.
Additionally, Visa applications now require form validation and OTP confirmation to finalize bookings.
Also, VFS is sending anti-fraud alerts across social media, appointment letters, call center recordings, and posters at visa centres.
Suspected scams can be reported via email at [email protected].
The company has also responded to increased demand by extending working hours, introducing dedicated slots for passport pick-up and drop-off, and adding extra waiting areas at application centres.

Common Reason for Visa Rejection
The most frequent reason for visa rejections, according to VFS, is the submission of incorrect or incomplete information.
Applicants have been advised to carefully review country-specific checklists on the VFS website.
However, for those unsure about the process, a form-filling service is available at select locations for an additional fee, but this does not influence the decision or speed.
VFS Global has clarified that it does not control the availability of appointments or influence visa approval decisions.
The company handles only administrative tasks, while the embassy or consulate of the destination country makes all final decisions regarding visa approvals, documentation requirements, and processing timelines.
“We urge applicants to arrive at the centre 15 minutes early and to avoid any third parties who claim to expedite appointments,” VFS added.
