Communications firm Zuku and Boma Yangu have partnered to launch affordable high-speed internet service priced at Ksh10 per day (Ksh300 per month).
The internet targets residents of affordable housing projects led by President William Ruto.
Speaking during the unveiling of the initiative on Tuesday, May 20, a Boma Yangu official highlighted how this innovative internet solution aligns with the government’s vision of making housing and connectivity accessible to all Kenyans.
“In your vision for affordable housing, we have also come up with affordable internet, where we are providing internet for about Ksh300 per month, Ksh10 a day,” the Boma Yangu official said.
“We have done that through partnerships to try and bring in affordable materials to do the construction and laying of the fiber cables in the houses. It is high-speed internet powered by fiber.”

Zuku WI-Fi deal
The collaboration with Zuku aims to provide residents of affordable housing estates with seamless internet access, supporting education and work-from-home opportunities.
Moreover, the fiber-optic technology promises fast and stable connections that can support multiple devices simultaneously.
President Ruto welcomed the initiative, noting that affordable internet is an important pillar in Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.
This initiative is expected to roll out across various affordable housing estates under Boma Yangu.

Ruto Hand Over Mukuru Affordable Housing Units
At the same time, Ruto officially handed over 1,080 housing units to Mukuru Affordable Housing beneficiaries in Embakasi South.
Spanning 56 acres, this development is Kenya’s largest affordable housing project to date, with a total of 13,248 residential units.
Moreover, the development comprises of 5,616 studio, 3,024 one-bedroom, and 4,608 two-bedroom apartments that have been designed and equipped with modern amenities, including lifts, sewer connection, and parking spaces.
Priority of occupancy has been given to residents of Mukuru informal settlements during the allocation.
Earlier, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura announced that the area previously known as the Mukuru slums will now be officially called Mukuru Estate.
“13,248 units are up, and 1,080 people will receive their keys, over 970 of those have been verified and the ownership and there are great Kenyans out there who are celebrating,” Mwaura said.
