Three minors are among the five suspects detained following the gruesome murder of fashion designer and LGBTQ+ activist Edwin Chiloba.
The five suspects are to stay in custody for three more weeks pending investigations into the horrid murder.
Moreover, the suspects were all arraigned at the Eldoret Law Courts on Monday, January 9. The prosecution requested that the suspects be detained for 21 more days to provide room for investigations.
The LGBTQ+ activist’s body was discovered stuffed in a metallic box in Kipkenyo, Eldoret, on Wednesday, January 4.
Witnesses reported that unknown assailants dropped off the metallic box containing Edwin Chiloba’s body along the Kipkenyo – Katinga road before speeding off.
Authorities suspect that Edwin Chiloba was murdered at an apartment in Chepkolel, Moiben, where he lived with Jackton Odhiambo.
Mr. Odhiambo who is said to have been the activist’s boyfriend is the main suspect of the murder.

The other suspects include a cousin to the main suspect, a friend and a taxi driver police believe aided in the disposal of the Chiloba’s body.
Furthermore, the prosecution asked for more time as a postmortem is yet to be conducted on the deceased’s body. Likewise, the Toyota Fielder allegedly used to dispose of the body, as well as the apartment have not been subjected to forensic examination.
Similarly, the mobile phone used by Edwin Chiloba is yet to be recovered and police have stated that they are still pursuing more suspects.
Nonetheless, the prosecution argued that the suspects arrested are flight risks and since the case is of public interest, their lives are in danger.
As such, the court granted 21 days to complete investigations.
The case will be heard on January 31st.
