John Ohaga is a Senior Counsel and the Managing Partner of TripleOKLaw LLP, one of Kenya’s most accomplished and award-winning law firms.
With over 30 years of experience, he is widely recognized for his expertise in dispute resolution, commercial litigation, and arbitration.
Early Life and Educational Background
Unlike many of his peers, Ohaga was a boarder in school at the age of 5, from kindergarten through high school.
He attended St. Augustine Preparatory School in Mombasa for his early years before moving across the country to Kitale Primary School, which was known at the time as a prestigious, high-cost school.
John Morris Ohaga is a proud alumnus of Alliance High School, where he adopted the school’s motto, “Strong to Serve, ” which he says has taught him how to act, what to think, and how to behave.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. The lawyer has pursued further studies in International Dispute Resolution at Queen Mary, University of London.
For legal training, he completed his pupillage at Hamilton Harrison & Mathews Advocates (now Dentons HHM) and was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1989.
At Harvard Law School, he attained his Certificate in Negotiation and Leadership in 2019.
In 2017, the senior counsel earned a Certificate in Sports Arbitration at the Kuala Lumpur Centre for International Arbitration.
The University of London recognized him for completing a Commonwealth Young Lawyers Course in 1993.
He has recently been pursuing an advanced degree, Master of Laws (LLM) in International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary, University of London.
Before his legal career took off, Morris was an international rugby player for Kenya between 1987 and 1995, and won the Kenya Cup with the Mean Machine team.
Career Background
He is a Chartered Arbitrator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), having served as a member of the CIArb Presidential Panel of Arbitrators and convener of the Law Society of Kenya’s Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Ohaga served as the Chairman of the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) for 11 years, from 2014 to 2025, during which he was instrumental in resolving major conflicts within Kenyan sports federations.

He specializes in complex litigation for blue-chip companies, state corporations, and private entities, covering areas such as banking, constitutional law, and employment law.
In 2017, he was appointed by the Law Society of Kenya as a mediator to help end the national doctors’ strike.

- Senior Counsel Rank- Conferred in 2024.
- Arbitration Excellence- he attained the rank of Chartered Arbitrator (C.Arb), the highest level of certification in the field, and serves on the CIArb Presidential Panel of Arbitrators.
- Client Choice Awards- was named the winner of the International Law Office (ILO) Client Choice Award for Litigation in Kenya in 2010, 2016, and 2017.
- Sports Governance- he has served as the founding Chairman of the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) from 2014 to 2025.
- Rugby Success: he represented Kenya internationally between 1987 and 1995, winning the Kenya Cup twice in 1989 and 1990 with the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine team.
