Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has fired back at his Kisumu Counterpart Proffesor Anyan’g Nyong’o over his Wednesday, March 29 statement on the Azimio demos.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, Sakaja countered Nyong’o who banned Azimio demos in Kisumu stating that the protests should take place in Nairobi.

“My administration is working round the clock to enable the City County to serve not just Nairobi but the people of Kenya in realising their aspirations which is why we’re prosperous and totally unacceptable,” the statement by Sakaja read in part.
The Nairobi governor further faulted Nyng’o for stating that he will export the demonstration from Kisumu City to Nairobi County.
“The Governor of Kisumu’s idea that he can export his demonstrations to Nairobi and make our County the capital of demonstrations and associated mayhem is preposterous and totally unacceptable
“Nairobi County has already hosted two of these demonstrations. We’ve borne the cost of the disruption so far. Nairobians have patiently put up with the disruption and their taxes have paid for its aftermath,” Sakaja said.
In his official statement, Governor Nyongo suspended all public demonstrations in Kisumu County.
Nyongo said the decision comes after consultations between the Azimio La Umoja Leadership and the County Executive Committee.
The governor said protesters will join demonstrators in Nairobi.
“The people of Kisumu remain committed to the aspirations of Azimio L Umoja and its campaign for a better Kenya,” Prof Nyong’o said.
Nyong’o, however, made it clear that the county remains committed to pushing for the lowering of the cost of living.
“In the past two weeks, residents of Kisumu County have been joining other Kenyans in peaceful demonstrations against the Kenya Kwanza government over the high cost of living and electoral fraud.” the statement read in part.
